Wife, mother-in-law hacked to death
In Kalabagan, Dhaka, a wife and her mother were killed after being stabbed by the husband following a family dispute. Police have detained the son-in-law, Shipon, in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred Sunday morning at a home in the Katalbagan area of Kalabagan.
The deceased were identified as Shipon’s wife, Farzana Begum alias Ratri (20), and her mother, Firoza Begum (38).
Firoza Begum, critically injured, was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital that morning, where doctors declared her dead around 10:15 AM. Her daughter Ratri had already died at the scene.
Firoza Begum’s husband, Md. Faruk Hossain, said he received news that morning of a fight between his daughter and her husband Shipon at the Katalbagan home. Upon arriving, he found his daughter lying bloodied and his wife critically injured. His wife was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
He further said that about 10 days earlier, the mother and daughter had gone to their village home in Gosairhat, Shariatpur. On Friday, an argument broke out between Ratri and Shipon at a relative’s wedding, and the two returned to Dhaka Saturday night. On Sunday morning, following that dispute, Shipon allegedly hacked Ratri to death indiscriminately with a sharp weapon; when Firoza Begum tried to intervene, she too was stabbed. Shipon then reportedly fled, taking their one-year-old son Rayhan with him.
Kalabagan Police Station Investigation Inspector Ibrahim Hossain Sohel confirmed the incident.
Police said Firoza – wife of Md. Faruk Hossain of Batgao village, Gosairhat Upazila, Shariatpur – and her daughter Ratri were killed by son-in-law Shipon, who allegedly hacked them in various parts of the body following a prior dispute.
Police further said one body remains at DMCH Hospital and the other at the scene in Katalbagan; both will be sent to the morgue for autopsy following legal procedures.
Kalabagan Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Fazle Ashik said the incident began with an argument between husband and wife amid family discord. When Ratri’s mother intervened to try to calm the situation, taking her daughter’s side, Shipon reportedly became enraged, stabbing his wife first and then his mother-in-law.
