DMP chief orders area-based policing

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Musleh Uddin Ahmed on Monday directed police officers to divide their duties on an area basis to prevent security gaps anywhere in the capital.

“Duty must be divided area-wise so that no security vacuum is created in any area and there is no shortfall in deployment,” he said at the monthly crime review meeting for August at DMP Headquarters.

He instructed the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), Detective Branch (DB) and thana police to work in coordination to prevent crimes more effectively.

The commissioner also directed police to strengthen security at Dhaka’s entry points and key locations through block checks and other necessary measures to prevent criminals from entering the capital from outside to commit crimes.

He stressed the need to collect, analyse and promptly use intelligence to identify suspicious people and take lawful action before crimes are committed.

Ahmed also instructed police to establish an effective system for regularly collecting and preserving guest information from residential and other hotels so that the data can be retrieved quickly when necessary.

At the meeting, the commissioner awarded DMP officers in different categories for their outstanding performance in maintaining law and order, controlling crime and ensuring public safety in August.

Senior DMP officials, including additional police commissioners, joint commissioners, deputy commissioners, additional deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and officers-in-charge of all DMP police stations, attended the meeting.
