Army chief returns after Turkey visit

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman returned home on Sunday after concluding a five-day official visit to Turkey focused on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and expanding military relations between the two countries.

According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release issued on Sunday, the army chief began his visit by paying tribute to Turkey’s founding father and first President, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. He laid a wreath at Atatürk’s mausoleum, An?tkabir, in Ankara.

During the visit, General Waker held separate courtesy meetings with Turkish Minister of National Defence Ya?ar Güler, Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaro?lu, Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel, and Director of the Istanbul Naval Shipyard Rear Admiral Recep Erdinç Yetkin.

He also met officials of the Turkish Defence Industry Agency (SSB) to discuss issues related to defence cooperation and military collaboration between Bangladesh and Turkey.
