Acting President pays tribute to War martyrs
Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Sunday paid homage to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
He placed a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar at around 11:40am in honour of those who laid down their lives during the country’s War of Liberation.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the Acting President observed a one-minute silence to pay respect to the fallen heroes. A contingent of the Armed Forces presented him with a guard of honour.
Hafiz Uddin also signed the visitors’ book after the ceremony.
Earlier, he arrived at the National Memorial at around 11:35am, where he exchanged greetings with the chiefs of the three armed services and other senior officials.
From the National Memorial, the acting President came to Zia Mausoleum in Zia Udyan in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area and paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia by laying wreaths at their graves.
