Jubo Dal activist shot dead in Kafrul
A Jubo Dal worker was shot dead and two others injured in an attack in the capital’s Kafrul area on Friday night.
The shooting took place around 11:00pm in front of Opex Garments in Mirpur-13, under Kafrul Police Station.
The deceased was identified as Yusuf Ali, 45, a local Jubo Dal activist. The injured were Nalam Sardar, 45, a pavement vegetable vendor, and Monir Hossain, 32, a pavement clothing vendor.
The three were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Yusuf dead around 12:30am. The two injured were admitted for treatment.
Md Sujon, a local BNP activist who took the victims to the hospital, said Yusuf and several others were sitting together when three armed men suddenly opened fire.
Yusuf was shot in the chest, while Nalam and Monir also sustained bullet injuries, he said.
Sujon said local residents caught one of the suspected attackers and handed him over to police. His identity was not immediately known.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp in-charge Inspector Md Faruk confirmed the death, saying Yusuf’s body had been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
He said the relevant police station had been informed of the incident.
Yusuf’s elder brother, Masud Rana, filed a murder case with Kafrul Police Station on Saturday.
The case named Md Chanchal Molla, 34, Jihad Molla, 34, Md Ziarul Molla, 39, and Hasan, 35, along with four to five unidentified people as accused.
According to the case statement, Yusuf was a Jubo Dal worker and had close ties with Kafrul Thana Jubo Dal Member Secretary Md Hafizul Islam Babu.
