Meghmallar resigns from Chhatra Union

Meghmallar Basu has resigned from the Bangladesh Chhatra Union, who served as the central committee’s education and research affairs secretary.

Central Vice-President Main Ahmed has also resigned from the organisation, according to a press release signed by General Secretary Shimul Kumbhakar on Saturday.

The organisation said its central council had accepted the resignation letters submitted by the two leaders.

According to the statement, the leaders became involved with a new political platform amid the country’s changing political situation. Holding policymaking positions in two political organisations simultaneously could create ideological differences or conflicts of interest and negatively affect the activities and accountability of both organisations, it said.

Considering the organisational implications and their political positions, the central committee decided to accept their resignations.

For the same reason, central Vice-President Nazifa Jannat was also relieved of her responsibilities in the Students’ Union.

The organisation said the decisions were taken to protect its ideological principles and ensure organisational transparency, adding that holding leadership positions in multiple political organisations was inconsistent with its structure and policies.

It acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing leaders and wished them success in their future political and personal lives.

The Students’ Union also reiterated its commitment to continuing its struggles for the right to education, secularism, democracy, resistance to imperialism and the establishment of an equitable and socialist Bangladesh.
