Firefighter exam conducted
The written examination for the recruitment of firefighters in the Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate was held on Friday under strict surveillance and enhanced security measures to ensure a transparent and corruption-free selection process.
The examination took place at BAF Shaheen College near Jahangir Gate in Dhaka Cantonment, with the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) providing overall technical support throughout the process.
Authorities introduced multiple layers of monitoring to ensure a fair recruitment process. At the examination centre, banners warned candidates against engaging in financial transactions or any other unethical activities.
Candidates were allowed to enter the venue only after verification of their admit cards, while officials ensured that no mobile phones or electronic devices were carried inside. After entering the main gate, each candidate’s identity was verified by matching their face with photographs taken during the physical screening, eliminating any possibility of proxy candidates.
Officials said CCTV cameras were installed in every examination hall, allowing centralised monitoring of all stages of the examination. In addition to CCTV surveillance, video and still cameras were used to document the process.
Teachers from BAF Shaheen College, alongside Fire Service and Civil Defence officials, were deployed in every examination hall to oversee the test.
Authorities said answer scripts would be evaluated immediately after the examination, and the list of candidates selected for the viva voce would be published on the Fire Service’s official website and Facebook page later on the same day.
The directorate also imposed a restriction on granting leave to Fire Service personnel on the day before and the day of the examination, except in emergency situations.
Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal said there was no scope for irregularities, influence or proxy participation in the recruitment process.
He said recruitment would be based solely on merit, qualifications and transparency, adding that every stage of the examination was conducted under strict surveillance through CCTV and video recording to prevent malpractice.
“The goal is to recruit competent and qualified firefighters to serve the people,” he said.
Chairman of the recruitment committee and Director (Administration and Finance) Md Shahid Atahar Hossain said the authorities ensured a fully transparent, corruption-free and accountable recruitment process through multiple stages of identity verification and strict restrictions on electronic devices.
He added that the answer scripts would be assessed immediately after the written examination to publish the results quickly while maintaining transparency and public confidence.
Director (Training, Planning and Development) Lt Col M A Azad Anwar supervised the overall security arrangements, while members of law enforcement agencies assisted in maintaining security at the examination centres.
The directorate urged everyone to cooperate in ensuring a transparent recruitment process and refrain from engaging in any form of unethical financial transaction.
The Fire Service plans to recruit 165 firefighters, two nursing attendants, 13 drivers and one engine driver. Of the 1,842 candidates shortlisted for the written examination after the preliminary selection, 1,773 sat for the test.
