‘Positive act to boost society,’ PM believes
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman believes a culture of positive behaviour, mutual respect, and coexistence will strengthen society, said Mahdi Amin PM’s adviser and the spokesperson of PMO.
“Even if one disagrees with someone’s opinion, their right to express it should be respected. This respect for dissenting opinion and the freedom of expression is the strength of democracy,” Describing the incident in a post shared on his verified Facebook page late Thursday night.
Highlighting the Prime Minister’s perspective, Mahdi Amin said the Prime Minister believes that differences of opinion are natural; every individual has their own viewpoint and opinion.
“The prime minister believes people are entitled to their own opinions and that freedom of expression should be respected even when others disagree. Respect for differing views, he said, is strength of democracy, while positive conduct, mutual respect and coexistence can strengthen society,” Mehdi Amin wrote on his Facebook feed on Wednesday PM’s adviser and the spokesperson of PMO.
Mahdi Amin said, “PM was upset to learn that a school teacher had been detained in Kushtia over alleged derogatory remarks about him and directed police to release the teacher and ensure his safe return home.”
Adviser Mahdi Amin highlighted that democratic strength relies on respecting opposing views and protecting free expression.
Mahdi Amin said, “Tensions arose among local students, guardians, and residents in Daulatpur, Kushtia, centering on derogatory and offensive remarks made by a school teacher in the classroom regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.”
Mahdi made this comment in the context of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s order to release a schoolteacher detained in Daulatpur, Kushtia, over allegations of making derogatory remarks on the premier.
Following protests on the school premises, the police detained the teacher and took him to the police station, he said.
Mahdi Amin said being informed, the Prime Minister was concerned and immediately instructed the relevant police station to release the teacher with dignity and ensure his safe home return.
Following the Prime Minister’s directives, the police subsequently reached him safely to his residence.
