SEU celebrates World Poetry Day 2026
Southeast University (SEU) on Thursday celebrated “World Poetry Day 2026” through a colourful programme organised jointly by its School of Arts and Social Sciences and Writers Web Bangladesh at the university’s Tejgaon campus.
Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan attended the event as the chief guest, while SEU Board of Trustees Chairman Rezaul Karim was present as special guest.
The programme was chaired by SEU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam. In his speech, Ahmed Azam Khan urged young people to be inspired by the spirit of the Liberation War and work for the country’s development.
He said freedom fighters are the nation’s finest sons and called on everyone to remain alert so that their dignity and honour are never compromised.
The minister also praised the academic environment and overall activities of Southeast University.
SEU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Mofazzal Hossain, School of Arts and Social Sciences Dean Professor Dr Mohammad Shamsul Haque, School of Law Dean Professor Dr Farhana Helal Mehtab, Writers Web Bangladesh President Abbas Faruk, Senior Vice-President Dr Gauranga Mahanta and General Secretary Talukder Lovely also addressed the event.
Renowned poets, writers and researchers from Bangladesh as well as around 15 countries across Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Oceania joined the programme in person and virtually.
Through poetry recitations, literary discussions and cultural exchanges, participants highlighted the diversity of global literature and the universal appeal of poetry.
Awards were distributed among winning students from different universities in Bangladesh who took part in poetry and essay competitions organised to mark the occasion.
Deans of various faculties, department heads, teachers, officials, employees and a large number of students from different universities attended the programme.
The event featured poetry recitations, literary discussions and international literary exchanges, highlighting poetry’s universal message of humanity, cultural harmony and shared values.
