CCGP okays Tk220cr Rohingya projects

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Wednesday approved two procurement proposals worth about Tk 219.87 crore for a Rohingya livelihoods programme and a solar power project at Bhasan Char.

The committee approved the proposals at a meeting held at the Secretariat, with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

It approved the appointment of Padakhep Manabik Unnayan Kendra as a consulting firm for a livelihoods programme targeting Rohingyas and host communities in Chattogram division.

The firm will conduct training needs and market assessments, develop training modules and provide skills training to beneficiaries under the Department of Social Services.

The government estimated the consultancy contract at Tk 45.69 crore. The Ministry of Social Welfare submitted the proposal.

The programme will receive financing under a project aimed at strengthening the capacity, social care and economic empowerment of host communities and forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.

The committee also approved a Tk 174.18 crore proposal for a solar power plant with battery backup and an associated electricity distribution system at Bhasan Char in Noakhali. The Bangladesh Power Development Board will implement the project under its Bhasan Char electrification initiative.

A joint venture between Suhua Construction Group Company Limited and Power System Development Company Limited will implement the project on a turnkey basis.

The Power Division submitted the proposal.
