Workshop held on rural road dev
A day-long workshop on developing the core rural road network, setting road development priorities and verifying related data was held in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh on Wednesday.
The workshop, organised by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Gafargaon, began at 11:00am at the Upazila Parishad hallroom. Bates Consulting Services Limited provided technical support for the programme.
The workshop was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer M N Abdullah-Al-Mamun, while a GIS specialist from Bates Consulting Services Limited attended as the key discussant.
Among those present were Upazila Engineer Abu Bakar Siddique, Upazila BNP leader Sheikh Md Ishaq, Shah Abdullah Al Mamun, administrators of the upazila’s 15 union parishads, freedom fighters, Gafargaon Press Club President Azharul Haque, journalist Ataur Rahman Mintu, LGED officials and employees, and representatives of various social organisations.
Speakers said the implementation of a GIS-based Rural Road Master Plan would make road development planning more effective through accurate data verification and prioritisation.
They noted that the initiative would help improve rural connectivity, strengthen local transport facilities, support durable infrastructure development and contribute to the area’s overall economic growth.
