NRBC Bank PLC, in collaboration with Bangladesh Bank, organised the “Bangla QR Fair 2026” in Chattogram on Tuesday to promote cashless transactions and raise public awareness of the unified payment system.
The event, held at the Bangladesh Bank Chattogram Office, carried the slogan “One Country, One QR – Transactions with Bangla QR”, according to a press release.
Md Hanif Miah, Executive Director and Head of Bangladesh Bank, Chattogram Office, attended the event as chief guest, while Dr Md Touhidul Alam Khan, FCMA, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NRBC Bank, was the guest of honour.
Swarup Kumar Chowdhury, Mahbubul Alam and Yasmin Rahman Bula, Directors of Bangladesh Bank, Chattogram Office; Md Sajjad Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Director of Bangladesh Bank; Md Shaheen Howlader, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Business Officer of NRBC Bank; and Kazi Md Safayet Kabir, Head of Chattogram Zone of NRBC Bank, attended as special guests.
Other senior officials were also present.
A rally marking the occasion began at the Bangladesh Bank premises, passed through major roads in Chattogram and returned to the venue.
Small merchants participating in the fair accepted payments through Bangla QR at their stalls, demonstrating the convenience of digital transactions. Guests and merchants also shared their views and experiences regarding the payment system during an interactive discussion.
“To build a truly cashless Bangladesh, the use of Bangla QR has been made mandatory nationwide under the ‘One Country, One QR’ initiative since 1 July,” Md Hanif Miah said.
He said Bangladesh Bank had introduced the unified payment system to make transactions simpler, safer and more efficient.
“Customers can now make payments through Bangla QR using the mobile applications of any bank or mobile financial service provider. From small neighbourhood shops to large shopping centres, Bangla QR is now operational across the country,” he added.
Dr Md Touhidul Alam Khan said a cashless ecosystem was not merely about modernising payment systems but was also a foundation for financial inclusion, good governance, transparency and accountability.
“The introduction of Bangla QR has made transactions easier, more transparent and more secure,” he said.
NRBC Bank was conducting awareness and adoption campaigns through its nationwide network of branches and sub-branches, particularly among grassroots communities, he added.
“We are also providing Bangla QR solutions at minimal cost to merchants of all sizes, from small businesses to large enterprises, supporting the country’s transition towards a digitally empowered economy,” he said.
The organisers said the fair reflected Bangladesh Bank and NRBC Bank’s joint commitment to expanding digital payments and promoting secure, seamless and inclusive financial transactions.
