Four South Point students represent Bangladesh
Four students from South Point School & College, Malibagh, are representing Bangladesh at the Asian Youth Chess Championship being held in Shenzhen, China.
The students have already arrived in Shenzhen to compete in the prestigious continental event as members of the 13-player Bangladesh national team nominated by the Bangladesh Chess Federation.
The South Point representatives are Woman International Master (WIM) Warsia Khusbu, the National Junior Chess Champion; Safayat Kibria Azaan, National Under-12 Champion; Rayan Rashid Mugdho, National Under-10 Youth Chess Champion; and Zowena Mehbish, champion of the Tarunyer Utsab Chess Tournament. The national team also includes Reazul Ahnaf Mohammad Abrar.
The highly competitive Asian Youth Chess Championship has already commenced in Shenzhen and will run from 15 to 24 July 2026.
Young chess players from across Asia are participating in the championship. The Bangladesh team departed Dhaka for China at 10:00 p.m. on 14 July.
Before their departure, the South Point chess team paid a courtesy call on Colonel Md. Shamsul Alam, PSC (Retd.), Principal of South Point School & College, Malibagh.
Also present at the meeting were Jerina Ferdous, Vice Principal (National Curriculum); Shamim Ara Rahman Moon, Vice Principal (English Medium); Md. Sakhawat Ullah, Chief Finance Officer; and Shawkat Siddiqui, Sports Coordinator.
Congratulating the students, Principal Colonel Md. Shamsul Alam, PSC (Retd.) said:
“It is a matter of immense pride and joy that four of our students are representing Bangladesh at the Asian Youth Chess Championship. Their selection is a testament to their hard work, perseverance and talent.

South Point School & College recently earned both the Champion and Runner-up titles at the National School Chess Championship organized by the ICT Division of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
Building on this remarkable achievement, the institution’s chess team also represented Bangladesh and South Point School & College at the World School Chess Championship held in Kazakhstan earlier this year.
