Rizvi warns of ‘fallen collaborators’ destabilising country
BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday said that “fallen collaborators” of the ousted regime are working in various ways to destabilise the country, with some of them getting involved in subversive activities. He urged everyone to remain alert.
Rizvi made the remarks while speaking to reporters ahead of a dengue awareness leaflet distribution programme at Bangladesh Medical University in the capital.
“The fallen collaborators are working in many ways to create trouble for an elected government and to destabilise the country. They are getting involved in acts of sabotage. Everyone must remain cautious about this,” he said.
Referring to the recent escape of a top criminal from a police van, the BNP leader asked how such a thing could happen. “How can a top criminal escape from a police van?” he said, adding that such incidents also raise questions about the security system.
Rizvi said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is a government of the people and will not tolerate any form of anarchy, crime or activity that disrupts public safety.
Call for collective action against dengue
Calling for joint efforts to tackle the dengue situation, Rizvi said the spread of the disease can be largely contained if people are vigilant in advance. He stressed that individuals, families, social organisations and government agencies must work in a coordinated manner.
He said stagnant water around homes and in other places must be removed quickly, and that garbage and foul water must not be allowed to accumulate. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has given the necessary directives on these matters, he added.
“Rotten and stagnant water must be cleaned up promptly so that no breeding grounds for dengue can form. If we are alert beforehand, the outbreak can be kept largely under control,” Rizvi said.
Dengue testing now free
On the cost of testing, Rizvi said patients previously had to pay Tk 50 for a dengue test, but arrangements have now been made to provide it free of charge. He described this as a government initiative to ensure public healthcare.
The BNP acting secretary general also urged people to keep their homes, workplaces and surroundings clean and to remove any accumulated water without delay to help prevent dengue.
