PM stresses transparency in ‘Family Card’ rollout

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to ensure the Family Card programme is implemented through a transparent process backed by a reliable database to identify genuine beneficiaries.

He issued the directives on Monday while chairing a meeting on the gradual expansion and implementation strategy of the nationwide programme at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the Family Card initiative, one of the key commitments in the BNP’s election manifesto, and discussed plans for expanding the programme across the country.

The Prime Minister emphasised the need for a practical implementation roadmap, effective coordination among ministries and agencies, and the use of modern technology to ensure smooth nationwide delivery.

He stressed that a credible and acceptable database must be created so that assistance reaches the intended recipients accurately and transparently.

Tarique Rahman instructed officials to maintain the highest standards of transparency and accountability during every stage of Data collection, Information verification, Beneficiary selection.

He said the programme must be implemented in a way that ensures support reaches the people who genuinely need it.

Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Chief SDG Coordinator at the Prime Minister’s Office Prof Dr SM Abdul Awal, BNP National Executive Committee Special Secretary Belayet Hossain Mridha, and senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies attended the meeting.
