



Dr Md Rafiqul Islam agricultural scientist, joined Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) as its Director General (Routine Charge) on Wednesday.
He was appointed to the position through an office order issued by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Prior, Dr Md Rafiqul Islam served as Director (Research) (Routine Charge), Chief Scientific Officer, and Head of the Soil Science Division at BRRI.
He began his career at the institute as a Scientific Officer in 1998 and has dedicated the past 28 years to serving BRRI in various scientific and leadership roles.
Dr Islam is widely recognised as one of the country’s leading soil scientists within the National Agricultural Research System (NARS).
He has published more than 80 research papers in prestigious national and international journals.
He has also participated in research, training, and scientific exchange programmes in several countries, including England, Scotland, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Nepal, Singapore, and India.
Dr Md Rafiqul Islam was born in 1971 in Haluakandi village of Kamarkhanda upazila in Sirajganj district. He obtained his BSc (Ag) (Hons) degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, in 1992.
He earned his MS degree in 2003 and his PhD in Soil Science in 2012 from Gazipur Agricultural University.
