Police arrest woman with Eskuf syrup

A woman was arrested with 40 bottles of banned codeine-based Eskuf syrup during an anti-narcotics operation conducted by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Pakshi Railway District Police and the Ishwardi Railway Police at Ishwardi Railway Junction Station in Pabna.

The operation was carried out on Wednesday aboard the Khulna-to-Dhaka intercity Chitra Express.

The arrested woman was identified as Mosammat Chaina Begum (55), a resident of Azimpur (Bhatapara) village under Darshana Police Station in Chuadanga district.

Officer-in-Charge Md Ziaur Rahaman said acting on the instructions of Pakshi Railway District Superintendent of Police Md Mehedi Hasan and under the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Railway Police Station, a special team conducted an anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics drive based on confidential information.

During the operation, Chaina Begum was detained from Coach “Cha” of the Chitra Express after her suspicious behaviour drew the attention of the officers.

Later, in the presence of a female police officer, law enforcers searched her navy blue-and-white checked travel bag and recovered 40 bottles of codeine-containing Eskuf syrup.

The estimated market value of the seized contraband is approximately Tk 120,000.

A case has been filed with Ishwardi Railway Police Station under Section 36(1), Schedule 14(b) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Police said the accused was being sent to jail through the court after the completion of the required legal procedures.
