The government has officially declared two new river ports on the Jamuna River to strengthen inland waterway connectivity in northern Bangladesh, expand passenger transport services and support river port-based infrastructure development.
The newly declared ports are Sariakandi River Port in Bogura district and Dhunat River Port in the Bogura-Sirajganj region.
The Ministry of Shipping announced the decision through two separate gazette notifications issued on July 8.
The initiative is aimed at improving river transport in the northern region, facilitating passenger movement and promoting economic activities through the development of modern river port infrastructure.
