



The Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for preparing the project documents and designs for a 14-storey residential building for UGC employees.
The MoU was signed at the UGC headquarters in Agargaon on Thursday, according to a press release.
Under the agreement, DUET’s Consultancy, Research and Testing Services (CRTS) will prepare the project concept paper, Detailed Project Proposal (DPP), and the architectural and structural designs for the proposed building within the next six months.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, UGC Chairman Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed said ensuring housing facilities for the Commission’s officers and employees is one of the organisation’s priorities.
He said the project would be implemented within the stipulated timeframe through coordinated efforts by all parties concerned.
adding that the Commission aims to make the building ready for occupancy within the next two years.
He also stressed the need to complete the concept paper, DPP and architectural and structural designs accurately and promptly to avoid delays in construction.
DUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Engr Mohammad Iqbal said the university would fulfil the responsibility entrusted to it by the UGC with professionalism and commitment.
He expressed optimism that the DPP and other preparatory work would be completed on schedule, adding that DUET’s experienced engineers and architects would provide the necessary technical support for the project.
According to the press release, the residential building will be constructed under the government-to-government (G2G) mechanism and will incorporate environmentally friendly technologies, energy-efficient features and modern architectural designs.
