



The 250 million tree plantation and maintenance programme is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for around 350,000 people, offering significant prospects for the country’s development, Tahsina Rushdir Luna, MP for the Sylhet-2 (Osmaninagar-Bishwanath) constituency said.
The programme is not only aimed at increasing forest cover but also at building a sustainable future by conserving the environment and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change.
The MP called for strengthening the nationwide tree plantation campaign to combat climate change and protect the environment on Thursday.
She said the government’s plan to plant 250 million trees over the next five years reflects a strong commitment to building a greener and more climate-resilient Bangladesh at a programme held on the premises of SOS Children’s Village, Sylhet.
The MP made the remarks while inaugurating a tree plantation programme at SOS Children’s Village, Sylhet. During the event, 10,000 saplings were distributed among educational institutions in Dayamir Union of Osmaninagar Upazila, along with educational materials for students.
The programme was presided over by Dayamir Union Parishad Chairman S.T.M. Fakhr Uddin. Assistant Director of the SOS Social Centre, Sylhet, Tanbir Ahmed conducted the programme.
Among those present as special guests were Osmaninagar Upazila Executive Officer Munmun Nahar Asha, Deputy Director and In-charge of SOS Children’s Village, Sylhet, Md. Mazharul Islam Khan, Osmaninagar Upazila Primary Education Officer Md. Saiful Islam Talukder, Osmaninagar Upazila BNP General Secretary Abdullah Misbah, and social worker Abdur Rouf Abdul.
Teachers from various educational institutions, public representatives, and leaders of different social organisations also attended the programme.
