Measles outbreak claims 3 more lives

Three more people have died from suspected measles across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of suspected measles deaths to 767 since March 15, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest update comes as the country continues to witness a rise in measles-like infections.

According to a DGHS press release issued on Friday, a total of 1,017 suspected measles cases were reported during the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of suspected cases to 134,655 between March 15 and August 6.

During the same period, 201 cases were confirmed through laboratory tests, bringing the total number of confirmed measles infections since March 15 to 16,740.

The health authorities said 116,822 patients with suspected measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country since the outbreak began.

Of them, 112,525 patients recovered and were discharged during the same period. The DGHS said no new deaths from confirmed measles were reported in the last 24 hours.

The number of confirmed measles deaths has remained at 96 since March 15.

The DGHS has been monitoring suspected and confirmed measles infections and deaths since the outbreak emerged on March 15, with hospitals continuing treatment for affected patients nationwide.
