Discussion on ‘Red July’ held in Budapest

To mark the second anniversary of the July 2024 mass uprising in Bangladesh, members of the Bangladeshi diaspora organized a discussion titled “Red July” on 5 August 2026 at Liberty Square in Budapest, Hungary.

Participants reflected on their experiences and memories of the July–August 2024 movement and discussed its political and social significance, emphasizing its role in Bangladesh’s democratic journey. Speakers also drew historical parallels with earlier periods of political change, arguing that widespread public dissatisfaction has repeatedly shaped the country’s history.

The discussion further highlighted the importance of preserving the history and ideals of the July uprising for future generations. Speakers described the movement as a landmark chapter in the struggle for democracy, justice, accountability, and citizens’ rights, and encouraged Bangladeshis living abroad to remain united in promoting democratic values and the national interest.

The event concluded with prayers for those who lost their lives during the 2024 uprising, for the recovery of the injured, and for peace and prosperity in Bangladesh, followed by light refreshments.
