Ins sector veteran Abul Kasem dies

The insurance sector has lost a seasoned professional as Additional Managing Director Abul Kasem passed away on Wednesday at 10:40am while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka. He was 67 years old at the time of his death.

He is remembered for his long-standing contribution to the insurance industry, where he played a key role in developing skilled professionals and strengthening institutional practices throughout his career.
Mr Kasem completed his Master’s degree in Economics (with honours) from Chattogram University in 1986.

In 1996, he obtained an ABIA degree from the Bangladesh Insurance Association, strengthening his professional expertise in the insurance field.

From May 2011 to 15 July 2019, he worked as General Manager (Operations) at BSB Group, further expanding his leadership portfolio in the sector.

Later, on 16 July 2019, he joined Desh General Insurance Company Limited as Additional Managing Director and remained in service until his passing.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Mr Kasem was also active as a guest lecturer and trainer. He contributed to professional development in the insurance sector through training sessions at Bangladesh Insurance Academy, Bangladesh Institute of Management, and Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management.
