20 bottles Illegal cough syrup seized in Nilphamari

The District Detective Branch (DB) Police of Nilphamari recovered 20 bottles of illegal Eskuf Cough Syrup during a special anti-drug operation in Jaldhaka upazila on Monday. A case has been filed against the accused, who managed to flee the scene.

According to police sources, acting on the instructions of Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Md. Farhad Hossain Khan, a DB team led by Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Md. Matlubur Rahman conducted a raid on June 21, 2026, based on intelligence information.

During the operation at Manikpara village under Khutamara Union in Jaldhaka upazila, police searched the residence of accused Ashiul Islam (35), son of the late Shamsul Haque.

While searching a cattle shed on the premises, officers recovered 20 bottles of illegal Eskuf Cough Syrup and seized them in accordance with the law.

However, the suspect escaped during the raid. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately BDT 50,000.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Ashiul Islam is allegedly a professional drug trafficker who had been involved in the illegal trade of narcotics for a long time.

A case has been registered against the absconding accused at Jaldhaka Police Station under Sections 36(1), Schedule 14(b)/41 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 (Case No. 24 dated June 21, 2026; GR No. 180/2026).
Police said efforts are underway to arrest the fugitive suspect and continue the investigation.
