Extortion allegations N’ganj BNP

Police on Sunday detained Khairul Islam Sajib, son of BNP lawmaker for Narayanganj-3 Azharul Islam Mannan, for questioning over multiple allegations, including extortion.

Sajib is also the senior joint convener of Narayanganj district Jubo Dal.

Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tarek Al Mehedi confirmed the matter, saying police had received extortion allegations against Sajib.

“We received allegations of extortion against him. He was brought from Dhaka
to Narayanganj,” he said.

He added that Sajib was later handed over to the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police for further interrogation.

DMP Additional Commissioner and DB chief Shafiqul Islam said Sajib had been taken to the DB office for questioning over several allegations.

“If the allegations are found to be true, legal action will be taken. If not, he will be released,” he said.
However, the DB chief declined to disclose details of the allegations.

According to police, Sajib was taken into custody from his residence in Dhaka’s Bashundhara Residential Area in the afternoon with the assistance of the DB.

He was later brought to the office of the Narayanganj superintendent of police around 5:00pm for questioning.

After more than an hour of interrogation, he was transferred to DB custody around 7:00pm on instructions from higher authorities.

A district police source said several complaints had been received against Sajib, including allegations of extortion, threats and misconduct.

“Investigations are ongoing, and further details cannot be disclosed at this stage in the interest of the probe,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Jubo Dal expelled Sajib later in the night over what it described as “clear allegations of his involvement in various irregularities.”
