Fifty BD pilgrims die during Hajj

Fifty Bangladeshi pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia during this year’s Hajj, according to the latest Hajj bulletin. Among the deceased, 33 were men and 17 were women. The bulletin further stated that 35 deaths occurred in Makkah, 14 in Madinah, and one in Jeddah.

At the same time, the return of Bangladeshi pilgrims after completing the pilgrimage continues at scale. A total of 54,323 pilgrims have returned home from Saudi Arabia so far through 127 flights.

Of them, 4,313 returned under government management, while 50,010 came back under private arrangements.

According to the Hajj bulletin as of Saturday, June 13, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has carried the highest number of returning pilgrims, transporting 22,952 individuals.

Meanwhile, Saudia Airlines has brought back 19,285 pilgrims, while Flynas Airlines has transported 8,380 pilgrims. An additional 3,706 pilgrims have returned via other airlines.

A total of 127 return flights have been operated so far, including 58 flights by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, 48 by Saudia Airlines, and 21 by Flynas Airlines.

In terms of healthcare services in Saudi Arabia for Bangladeshi pilgrims, medical centres have issued 62,837 automated medical prescriptions. The IT Help Desk has also provided 27,665 services to pilgrims.

Additionally, 410 Bangladeshi pilgrims have received treatment at various hospitals in Saudi Arabia, while 18 remain hospitalised at present.

Among them, five are admitted to Saudi National Hospital, three to Al-Noor Hospital, one to King Abdullah Medical City, four to Makkah Medical Centre, two to Hera General Hospital, one to Hayat National Hospital, and two to King Fahad General Hospital.

It is noted that this year’s Hajj took place on May 26. From Bangladesh, 4,565 pilgrims travelled under the government scheme, while 73,935 travelled under private management.

The first return flight began on May 30, and the final return flight is scheduled for June 30. Authorities concerned continue efforts to ensure the safe and smooth return of all pilgrims.
