Making defeated candidate chief guest rows political arena
Allegations have surfaced that incumbent Member of Parliament Advocate Al Faruq Abdul Latif was not invited to the programme, while a candidate who was defeated in the 2026 parliamentary election was invited as the chief guest sparking discussion in Nilphamari political and social arena.
This incident happened when the freshers’ reception and cultural programme for the newly admitted honours first-year students of the 2025-2026 academic session was held at Nilphamari Government College on Monday.
The programme was organised on the college premises, where newly admitted students were welcomed with flowers. Speakers also extended greetings to the students and delivered welcome addresses.

Chairman of the Nilphamari District Council Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, Vice-Principal of Nilphamari Government College Professor Md. Golam Mostofa Chowdhury and Secretary of the Teachers’ Council Professor Md. Abdur Razzaq were present as special guests.
Professor A.K.M. Siddiqur Rahman, Principal of Nilphamari Government College, presided over the programme.
Addressing the newly admitted students, the speakers urged them to pursue their studies regularly while maintaining morality, discipline and patriotism.
They also called upon the students to make proper use of their academic years to develop themselves as competent and responsible citizens.
Later, students performed songs, dances and other cultural activities, creating a festive atmosphere among the new and senior students.
Meanwhile, the alleged decision not to invite incumbent MP Advocate Al Faruq Abdul Latif, while inviting a defeated candidate from the 2026 election as chief guest, has drawn discussion and criticism in local political and social circles.
No immediate comment was available from the college authorities regarding the allegations.
