Human chain held in Singra protesting attack on doctor

A human chain and protest meeting were held in Singra, Natore, protesting the attack on on-duty physician Dr. Nasir Islam following the death of a critically ill heart patient at Shariatpur General Hospital.

The protesters demanded speedy trial of those responsible for the attack and called for ensuring security at all government and private healthcare institutions across the country.

The hour-long programme was held at the Singra Upazila Health Complex at 10:00am on Tuesday (May 19).

Among the speakers were Singra Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mujahidul Islam, Dr. Abdul Ahad, Emergency Medical Officer Dr. Rifath Nanjiba, Desh Medical Center owner Motlebur Rahman, and Seba Medical owner Harun Or Rashid, among others.

The speakers said doctors in the country lack proper security, making it difficult for them to provide healthcare services safely.

They demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the attack on Dr. Nasir Islam in Shariatpur and urged the authorities to ensure security at hospitals and healthcare service institutions nationwide.
