Eid-ul-Azha on May 28
Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, will be observed in Bangladesh on May 28 as moon of the holy month of Zil Hajj of Hijri year 1447.
The counting of the holy month of Zil Hajj will begin today (May 19) as Eid-ul Azha is celebrated on the 10th day of Zil Hajj, said a press release.
This decision was taken on May 18, during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram with Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain (Kaikobad) in the chair. Officials concerned were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, The Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) has announced a five-day holiday for journalists and employees of newspapers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
The decision was announced in a notice issued on Monday, signed by NOAB President Matiur Rahman Chowdhury.
According to the notice, the Eid holiday for the newspaper sector will be observed from May 26 to May 30, following a decision of the organisation’s executive committee.
As a result, no newspapers will be published from May 27 to May 31 during the holiday period.
