PM pays last respects to ex-State Minister Mizanur Rahman Sinha
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday paid his last respects to former State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mizanur Rahman Sinha.
The Prime Minister placed a wreath at the coffin of the deceased at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around 11:30am.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, BNP Secretary General, and Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni and Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan also paid tribute to him by placing wreaths at the coffin.
Before that, the Speaker, the LGRD Minister and the Chief Whip delivered reminiscence speeches in memory of the late BNP leader.
Sinha’s son Tanvir Sinha expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Speaker for honouring his father at the state level.
Earlier, the body of Mizanur Rahman Sinha, also a former lawmaker, was brought to the South Plaza of Parliament and kept on a stage draped in black cloth.
His namaz-e-janaza was held there before the tribute ceremony. The janaza was led by Abu Raihan, senior pesh imam of the parliament mosque.
Tarique Rahman, Hafiz Uddin, Mirza Fakhrul, Kayser Kamal, Nurul Islam Moni, State Minister for LGRD and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam, lawmakers, businesspeople, senior government officials and BNP leaders and activists from Munshiganj attended the janaza.
Mizanur Rahman Sinha died early Saturday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore at the age of 83.
Managing Director of pharmaceutical company ACME Laboratories Ltd, Mizanur Rahman Sinha was elected MP with BNP’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol in the 7th parliamentary election in 1996 and again in the eighth parliamentary election in 2001
He served as State Minister for Health and Family Welfare in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia after the 2001 election.
He also served as convener of Munshiganj district BNP and treasurer of the party’s central committee.
