22 NCP leaders resign from Ctg city committee

Twenty-two leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party have resigned from the party’s newly announced Chattogram city convening committee.

Mohammad Rafsan Jani Riaz, office secretary of the current committee, confirmed the resignations on Friday morning.

Earlier on Thursday night, four leaders announced their resignation at a press conference in front of the Chattogram Press Club around 11:30pm.

The four leaders who initially announced their resignation are Senior Joint Organising Secretary Rokibul Hasan, Joint Organising Secretaries Hujjatul Islam Sayeed and Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, and Office Secretary Rafsan Jani Riaz. They were present at the press conference.

On Thursday, the NCP announced a 168-member Chattogram city convening committee, naming Mir Mohammad Shoaib as convener and Arif Moinuddin as member secretary.

The party published the committee list on its verified Facebook page.

The committee was approved by NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and Chief Organiser for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah.

In a statement sent to the media on Friday morning, Rafsan Jani said a total of 22 leaders had decided to resign from the new committee.

He said a written resignation letter with the signatures of the 22 leaders would be sent to NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.

Speaking about the issue, committee convener Mohammad Shoaib said a large committee may not have met everyone’s expectations.

“Some may have received their preferred posts, but people close to them may have been left out.

This may have created dissatisfaction.

However, the door of the committee will always remain open for them,” he said.
