SSC 2027: Exams to begin Jan 7, HSC June 6

The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations for 2027 will begin on January 7 and continue until February 6.

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will start on June 6 and end on July 13.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the dates at a press conference on Thursday.

The minister said the examination schedules have already been finalised and will be published soon.

Speaking about reducing session delays and saving students’ time, Dr Milon said students currently lose a significant period of their academic lives while preparing for SSC and HSC examinations and waiting for results.

“A student is expected to complete SSC at the age of 16 and HSC at 18, but due to session delays, this can extend up to the age of 20. We want to reduce this gap,” he said.

The minister said the government’s target is to treat December as the examination month so that new academic sessions can begin in January.

Referring to applications for higher education abroad, he said the government plans to complete HSC examinations within June and July to help students apply for fall semesters.

He also said the University Grants Commission will be asked to coordinate with public universities so that higher education admission processes can begin within two months of result publication.

Responding to a question about coaching centres, the minister said classroom teaching must be made more effective.

He added that once the gap between examinations and admissions is reduced and in-house teaching is strengthened, the need for coaching centres will gradually decline.

The minister further said the government is working with different organisations, including the World Health Organization, to improve the quality of education, train teachers and develop students’ reading habits.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Education were present at the press conference.
