Coast Guard held 9 over diesel smuggling in Karnaphuli River
Members of the Coast Guard seized approximately 4,000 liters of diesel being smuggled from a ship in the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram and arrested 9 members of the smuggling gang on Monday.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan stated that on Saturday night around 10 pm, the Coast Guard Base Chattogram conducted a special operation in the Karnaphuli River adjacent to the Diamond Cement Factory in the Dangarchar area of Karnaphuli Police Station, reports BSS.
During the operation, 4,000 liters of diesel worth approximately Tk 4 lakh were seized while being smuggled from the Chattogram Port Authority’s ‘Kandari-6’ ship to an oil tanker named ‘OT Aju Shah’.
Nine smugglers were arrested at the scene, and the seized diesel was handed over to the Chattogram Port Authority.
