Tagore festival opens at Shilpakala

A four-day cultural festival marking the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore inaugurated on Friday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, celebrating the poet’s literary and artistic legacy.

The opening programme at the National Theatre Hall featured songs, dance and recitations based on Tagore’s works, along with a special session titled ‘Rabindranath: The Poet of Peace and Humanity.’

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon attended as chief guest, while State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin presented as special guest. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr A B M Obaidul Islam presented the keynote paper.

Organised by Shilpakala Academy under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the event was presided over by its Director General Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin.

The festival will continue over four days with cultural performances, discussions, and an art exhibition, bringing together Tagore’s songs, dances, and paintings.
