MILESTONE TRAGEDY: Case application filed against Yunus, Asif Nazrul
A case application has been filed against 16 people, including former chief adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus and former law adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, over the deaths of students in the aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara.
The application was filed on Thursday by UsaimongMarma, father of deceased student UkyaChaingMarma. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam recorded the complainant’s statement and kept the order pending.
Complainant’s lawyer AKM Sharif Uddin confirmed the matter.

Mahmood Khan; Air Commanding Officer Morshed Mohammad KhayerUlAfsar; Officer Commanding Maintenance Group Captain RifatAkterJiku; Milestone School and College governing body adviser NurunNabi, a retired colonel; Milestone School and College Principal Mohammad ZiaulAlam; Principal Administration MdMasudAlam; school section principal RifatNabi; chairman of RajdhaniUnnayanKartripakkha; RAJUK field supervisor for Uttara; Education Ministry Secretary Siddique Zubair; Defence Ministry secretary; former environment and disaster management adviser DrRezwana Hasan; and former Defence Ministry press secretary ShafiqulAlam.
According to the complaint, the accused failed to perform their state-assigned duties properly and allowed a mechanically faulty F-7 fighter aircraft to conduct a training flight over a densely populated area of Dhaka without adequate safety consideration.
The complaint alleges that the negligence led to a devastating crash and heavy loss of life.
The application also alleges negligence after the crash, failure to implement public promises of compensation and actions that created confusion among the public.
It further claims that the operation of the school and college in an unsuitable and risky building, and the permission to continue educational activities in such a structure, contributed to the scale of casualties.
The complaint says no effective steps were taken to identify those responsible, bring them to justice, or ensure compensation and rehabilitation for the victims.
It also alleges negligence in the treatment, rescue operation and necessary instructions for injured students, teachers and staff.
According to the application, the complainant’s son died in the crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara on July 21, 2025.
It says the second witness, Ashraful Islam, lost two children in the incident, while witnesses MdRezaul Karim and Muhammad Abdul Samad each lost one child.
The complaint states that the complainant and witnesses had no responsibility or fault in the incident.
It also says around 200 people, including women, men and children, were seriously injured, with many suffering permanent disabilities.
The application alleges that the accused are personally and jointly responsible for the incident due to negligence in carrying out their duties.
It also claims that although compensation of up to Tk 5 crore for each deceased victim’s family and compensation for the injured had been announced, no victim or family has yet received compensation.
The complaint says this amounts to criminal breach of trust.
On July 21, 2025, a Bangladesh Air Force fighter aircraft crashed into Milestone School and College in Diabari, Uttara.
A total of 36 people were killed, including 28 students.
The pilot, Flight Lieutenant MdTowkir Islam, also died in the crash.
