Ship carrying crude oil arrives at Ctg port
The vessel MT Ninemia with 139,500 tonnes of crude oil arrived in the Kutubdia area of the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port this afternoon.
Commodore MahmudulMalek, Managing Director of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) said the ship MT Ninemia has safely reached Bangladesh. The tanker has been anchored in the Kutubdia area as it could not reach the Dolphin Jetty of the port via the Karnaphuli River. According to regulations, the oil will be transferred to smaller tankers.
He said the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has implemented a special strategy to import oil, avoiding the risky Strait of Hormuz due to the ongoing Middle East conflict. The oil has been sourced from Yanbu Port in Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea coast.
Engineer Sharif Hasnat, Managing Director of Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL) said the imported 139,500 tonnes of crude oil will be processed at the state-owned Eastern Refinery.
To ensure a continuous fuel supply, the next shipment of 100,000 metric tonnes of oil is scheduled to be loaded from Fujairah Port in the United Arab Emirates on May 10.
The vessel MT Fossil is en route to Fujairah to receive the crude oil and is scheduled to depart for Bangladesh on May 11, arriving in the country on May 25. This timely delivery will help prevent any future oil shortages.
