DMP files 3,206 cases for traffic violations

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has filed 3,206 cases against vehicles for violating traffic rules during two days of enforcement drives in the capital, while 878 vehicles were dumped and 501 towed.

The cases were filed during regular traffic enforcement drives conducted on Thursday and Friday to maintain road discipline, ease congestion and improve road safety across Dhaka, according to the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.

The DMP said its traffic police would continue such drives against violators and urged motorists and pedestrians to follow traffic rules to help maintain order on the city’s roads.

Traffic-Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of cases, filing 669, including 25 against buses, 22 trucks, 47 covered vans, 72 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 258 motorcycles.

Traffic-Uttara Division followed with 612 cases, including 52 against buses, 19 trucks, 23 covered vans, 54 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 261 motorcycles.

Traffic-Motijheel Division filed 512 cases, including 29 against buses, two trucks and 269 motorcycles.
Traffic-Wari Division registered 445 cases, including 50 against buses, 41 trucks, 31 covered vans, 50 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 159 motorcycles.

Traffic-Gulshan Division filed 273 cases, including 39 against buses, six trucks, eight covered vans, 29 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 73 motorcycles.

Traffic-Lalbagh Division filed 228 cases, including 14 against buses, 14 trucks, two covered vans, 13 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 118 motorcycles.

Traffic-Tejgaon Division registered 244 cases, including 13 against buses, one truck, eight covered vans, 24 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 106 motorcycles.

Meanwhile, Traffic-Ramna Division filed 215 cases, including 19 against buses, 10 covered vans, 16 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 71 motorcycles.

The DMP said the enforcement drives were part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with traffic laws and improve discipline and safety on the capital’s roads.
