Govt to recruit 2,842 secondary school teachers
The government has moved to address a long-standing shortage of teachers in secondary education by initiating recruitment for 2,842 vacant assistant teacher posts in government schools, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon told Parliament on Thursday.
Responding to a query in the House, the minister said a nationwide list of vacancies has already been compiled and forwarded through the Ministry of Education to the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC), marking the first formal step toward filling the gaps. He added that the recruitment process has now been set in motion with the aim of speeding up appointments and easing pressure on the education system.
Officials said the move is part of a broader effort to tackle staffing shortages not only in government secondary schools but also in non-government institutions and madrasas. While assistant teacher recruitment in non-government schools and Alia madrasas is being handled through the Non-Government Teacher Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA), vacancies are being filled gradually through phased appointments.
The minister also highlighted that shortages persist in the madrasa sector, including 114 vacant posts in government Alia madrasas and thousands more in MPO-affiliated institutions, such as 1,354 superintendent and 1,777 assistant superintendent positions. These, too, are being processed under the NTRCA system.
The government says the combined recruitment drive through PSC and NTRCA is intended to reduce long-standing staffing gaps and improve the overall quality of secondary education once completed.
