‘This is the biggest win in Bangladesh’s history’

Bangladesh have created history on the Australian soil Sunday. Najmul Hossain Shanto & Co. won an unforgettable victory in the first Test at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin. The Tigers thrashed the Aussies by nine wickets in the first Test on Sunday.

Bangladesh defeated the hosts in four days and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

Bangladesh’s 426 was built around Tanzid Hasan’s maiden Test century, Shanto’s 84 and useful contributions from Mominul Haque and Mehidy.

The lower order then added valuable runs to give Bangladesh a 228-run lead.

After the unforgettable victory, Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also expressed pride.

He said this historic Test victory on Australian soil will take precedence over all the achievements in Bangladesh cricket so far.

In his words, “This is our biggest victory in the history of Bangladesh cricket in any format. We believe that we will be able to show something new in the future as well.”

Bangladesh cricketers have cornered their opponents from all sides on the field.

Starting from the dominance of the pace attack to the perfect and responsible batting of the top and lower order – all in all, this was not a miraculous victory, but rather the result of playing world-class cricket following a specific process for five consecutive days.

The Bangladesh Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said he is proud of himself and the team for the performance they have done, “I feel really happy, very proud of myself and the performance of the whole team. We have worked hard, and it feels really good to get such a win.”

Bangladesh’s fast bowlers set up the victory. Hasan Mahmud took six wickets in Australia’s first innings of 198 and added three more in the second innings. Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain also played their role.

Hasan, named Player of the Match for his nine wickets, said Bangladesh focused on their plans rather than the result.

“Before the match, in the practice session, we were doing our best every second and believed in ourselves without thinking of the outcome,” he said.

“We got some team plans with the coaches, watching videos, and that’s what we did at the ground.”

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored 65 in Bangladesh’s first innings and captured five wickets in Australia’s second innings, said belief was crucial.

“We had the belief,” he said. “Australia are world-class team and have lots of good players. We knew if we beat them, it would be very good for our country.”

Shanto said Bangladesh would need the same discipline in the second Test.

the second Test between Bangladesh and Australia will be held at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay from August 22 to August 26.
