Child dies with measles symptoms surged at MMCH
The total number of child deaths due to measles outbreak has been rising, bringing the total death toll to 15 at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).
At the same time, 41 new children have been admitted, while a total of 80 children are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The information was confirmed on Monday by Dr. Md. Golam Mawla, the focal person of the hospital’s measles medical team.
He said that an 11-month-old child from Karimganj in Kishoreganj was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. The child died around 11:30 am on Monday.
In addition to measles, the child was suffering from pneumonia, and cardiac arrest led to the death.
Hospital sources said that from March 17 to April 20 mornings, a total of 652 children have been admitted with measles symptoms. Among them, 38 children were discharged after recovery in the last 24 hours. Overall, 557 children have recovered and been released so far.
Assistant Director (Administration) of the hospital, Dr. Mohammad Mainuddin Khan, said that three medical teams have been formed to provide treatment at the measles isolation ward set up on the eighth floor of the new building. Doctors and nurses are jointly providing care to the affected children.
