13 lakh children to measles vaccination in Sylhet

An advocacy meeting has been held at the divisional level to make the measles and rubella vaccination campaign-2026 successful in Sylhet.

The total target in the entire Sylhet division has stood at 13 lakh 51 thousand 969 people. Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Md. Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury was present as the chief guest in the meeting organised in the conference room of the office of the Divisional Director (Health) on Sunday.

In his speech, Ziaur Rahman said that there are some challenges in the healthcare sector. Especially in the case of serious infectious diseases, various types of complications are being seen.

There are differences in patient pressure and medical management in government and private hospitals, which is creating some problems.

He said, we are observing that in many cases, panic is being created due to lack of information or misunderstanding.

Therefore, it is necessary to disseminate correct information and increase awareness. On the other hand, everyone has to work together socially and organizationally. He expressed hope that if we can create public awareness and encourage people through various campaigns, we will be able to protect our children from the outbreak of measles.

It was informed in the meeting that according to the target, a plan has been taken to vaccinate 4 lakh 65 thousand 354 people in Sylhet district (68 thousand 580 including City Corporation), 2 lakh 10 thousand 186 in Moulvibazar, 3 lakh 33 thousand 941 in Habiganj and 3 lakh 44 thousand 588 in Sunamganj; as a result, the total target in the entire Sylhet division has stood at 13 lakh 51 thousand 969 people. In addition, the health department’s preparations and vaccination activities have been strengthened to prevent measles and rubella in Sylhet division.
