PM to inaugurate excavation of Basia River in Sylhet

The Deputy Commissioner said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Sylhet on May 2 to inaugurate the re-excavation of the Basia River, which is associated with the memory of Shaheed Zia, which was previously started by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. He will also inaugurate the ‘New Bud Sports’ and Sylhet Medical University at the Sylhet District Stadium.

A preparatory meeting was held on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s visit to Sylhet at the initiative of the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md. Sarwar Alam presided over the preparatory meeting held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Sunday.

The meeting discussed in detail the preparations for implementing various programs focusing on the visit.

The meeting discussed strengthening the law and order situation and security measures ahead of the arrival of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

At the same time, it was decided to take initiatives to beautify the buildings of various government departments, repair roads, increase the cleanliness of urban buildings and beautify the trees along the roads. In addition, various sports competitions will be organised at the district stadium and separate teams will be formed for each sport.

Sylhet Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner Saida Parveen, Executive Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department Md. Mamun Khan, officials of various government departments, representatives of divisional and district sports organisations and media personnel were present in the meeting.
