Hadi Murder: Arms dealer gives confession
In the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, convener of Inkilab Mancha, the alleged ‘seller’ of the weapon used in the crime Majedul Haq alias Helal has given a confessional statement before the court.
On Saturday (April 18), after the completion of a three-day remand, he was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court, where he gave this statement.
Court sources said that the investigating officer of the case, CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan, filed an application to record the accused’s confessional statement.
Acting on the application, Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam recorded his statement and subsequently ordered him to be sent to jail. SI Ruknuzzaman of the Prosecution Department confirmed the matter to the media.
Earlier, on April 15, the court had granted a three-day remand for Helal. On Tuesday (April 14), he was arrested by DB Police from the Chokbazar area of Chittagong. Helal is the owner of an arms dealership in Chittagong named ‘Hamidul Haq Arms & Co.’
It is worth noting that on December 12 of last year, Sharif Osman Hadi was critically shot by an assailant while conducting electoral outreach in the Bijaynagar area.
He was taken to Singapore for advanced medical treatment, but passed away there on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
