Ex-DGFI chief Afzal in remand again
A Dhaka court has once again placed former Director General of DGFI, Afzal Naser, on a three-day remand in connection with a case over the alleged murder of Delwar Hossain in Mirpur.
On Friday (April 17), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam issued the order following a hearing held in the afternoon. This marks the sixth time Naser has been taken on remand.
According to court sources, police produced Naser before the court after he completed 18 days of remand across five previous phases. The investigating officer, DB Police Sub-Inspector Kafil Uddin, sought a further five-day remand for additional questioning.
State prosecutor Shamsudduha Sumon argued in favour of the remand, while defence lawyers submitted a petition seeking bail and cancellation of the remand request.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and granted a three-day remand.
In the remand application, the investigating officer stated that the preliminary investigation had uncovered significant information and evidence regarding Naser’s alleged involvement.
He added that further intensive interrogation is necessary to clarify outstanding aspects of the case.
