BCCI Vice-President congratulates Tamim
Just six months after his election, the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) committee led by Aminul Islam Bulbul.
After that, an 11-member ad-hoc committee was formed with Tamim Iqbal as the chairman. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) welcomed this change in the Bangladesh’s cricket. BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla congratulated Tamim.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Congratulations to Tamim Iqbal for becoming the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. His leadership as former cricketer will enhance the prospects of cricket in his country and overseas.”
Earlier, in explaining the dissolution of the last BCB committee led by Bulbul, the NSC said that the report of the investigation committee formed on the election found indications of government interference in the election, rigging of e-voting and abuse of power against Bulbul.
The new ad-hoc committee has been given a three-month mandate, and the responsibility of the new BCB elections has fallen on their shoulders. Bangladesh has already had political tensions with neighboring India.
It also spilled over into cricket over the recent IPL exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman. Bangladesh refused to play in the T20 World Cup on Indian soil.
The BCB was also adamant about the government’s decision in the end. As a result, Bangladesh did not play in the World Cup in addition to creating a cold relationship with the BCCI. Meanwhile, a new government has been formed in Bangladesh after the parliamentary elections in mid-February.
After that, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque indicated that he would improve cricketing relations with India after taking oath as the State Minister for Youth and Sports. In that vein, the board led by Bulbul contacted the BCCI about the upcoming bilateral series with India.
However, the question was how normal the relationship between the two boards would be after the Mustafiz and World Cup issues. What a positive message BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla sent by congratulating Tamim as the chairman of the ad-hoc committee!
