Illegal bus counters must go in 7 days

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has instructed the removal of illegal inter-district bus counters in the capital within seven days as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion and modernize traffic management.

According to a public notice signed by Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar on Sunday (April 5), unauthorized night coach counters, parking, and passenger boarding in different areas of Dhaka are disrupting traffic flow. The problem is particularly severe at night, leading to heavy congestion.

The notice directs that, within seven working days, inter-district bus counters must not operate anywhere in the city except at the designated terminals—Gabtoli, Mohakhali, and Sayedabad. Authorities have also urged those concerned to remove illegal night coach counters voluntarily.

DMP warned that failure to comply will result in strict action under the Road Transport Act, 2018. Penalties may include fines, imprisonment, cancellation of route permits, and confiscation of goods through mobile courts.
