World School Chess Champ: South Point School & College team depart for Kazakhstan

South Point School & College, Malibagh, has qualified to participate in the World School Chess Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Organised by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the prestigious international tournament will take place from April 6 to April 11, 2026.

A total of 20 school chess teams, including South Point School & College representing Bangladesh from the Asian zonal level, will compete in this global event.

Prior to departing Dhaka for Kazakhstan, the South Point School Chess team paid a courtesy visit to the institution’s authority.

On this occasion, the Principal, Colonel Md. Shamsul Alam, PSC (Retd.), extended his best wishes for the team’s success and congratulated the team leader, captain, and all players.

The team members are: Safayat Kibria Azan, Muhtadi Tajwar Nashid, Sidratul Muntaha, and Azan Mahmud.

The team captain is Lutfa Bobby, while the team is being led by Md. Shawkat Siddiqui, Teacher and Sports Coordinator of the institution.

It is noteworthy that in 2025, South Point School & College, Malibagh, achieved the distinction of becoming Champion and Runner-up in the National School Chess Championship 2025, organized by the ICT Division of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Based on this achievement, the Bangladesh Chess Federation nominated the institution to participate in the World School Chess Championship 2026.

Furthermore, in the 2025 “Festival of Youth,” South Point School & College emerged as Champion in both the Open and Girls’ categories of school chess.

The institution was also recognized as the best educational institution of its respective education zone in Dhaka for 2026.

The South Point family has sought prayers and support from all chess enthusiasts and well-wishers of the country, hoping that the team will bring honor and glory to Bangladesh on the international stage.
