2 children drowned in Fatikchhari

Two children drowned in Harualchhari Union of Bhujpur thana under Fatikchhari upazila on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Saki (8), daughter of Habibur Rahman, and Sanjida (11), daughter of Jagir Hossain.

Locals said a deep pond was created due to extraction of huge soil from the agricultural land near their house for brick kiln. Torrential rain filled up the land to the brink.

The incident occurred when Saki fell in the pond abruptly while they were playing in a nearby area. As Sanjida tried to save Saki she also fell down in the water and finally drowned.

Harualchhari Union Parishad Chairman Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury confirmed the tragic death of two children. Local people have urged authorities to fill up the water body immediately to prevent any similar incident in future.
