Community meet in Nilphamari
A community meeting was held in Nilphamari to form water user farmer groups under the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation method, aimed at boosting agricultural production, conserving water, and promoting sustainable farming practices.
The meeting was organized as part of the “Program on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship and Resilience (PARTNER)” implemented by the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).
Speaking on behalf of the farmers from the Kundapukur Angarpara Borobari area, Md. Golam Mostafa said that the AWD method can reduce irrigation water use, lower production costs, and increase crop yields. He described the initiative as timely and highly beneficial for local farmers.
The event was attended by Md. Mosfikur Rahman, Assistant Engineer of BADC Nilphamari, Sub-Assistant Engineer Md. Faruk Hossain, and official Md. Shahin Ferdous (SAAO), Kundapukur Upazila, Nilphamari Sadar.
They emphasized the importance of modern irrigation management, efficient water use, and collective efforts among farmers.
The meeting highlighted that forming water user farmer groups would improve irrigation management efficiency, enable farmers to make joint decisions, and ensure proper use of resources.
The initiative was welcomed by local farmers, who urged that it be continued in the future.
