3,000 litres of petrol seized in Jamalpur
Eleven people were detained along with 3,000 litres of petrol while allegedly transporting it for black market sale in Jamalpur Sadar upazila on Wednesday, said police.
“The incident took place around midnight in the Kalibari Bazar area under Kendua union,” said Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman.
“A total of 3,000 litres of petrol, contained in 15 drums, were seized from a pickup van, a locally made engine-run vehicle, a battery-run van, and an autorickshaw. Legal action is under process in this regard,” he added.
The detainees are Hakim Mia, 40, of Telipara in Melandah upazila; Phul Mia, 38, of Katapur Bazar in Sariakandi, Bogura; Hafizur Rahman, 40, of Deuliyabari in Sadar upazila; Md Shah Jamal, 50, of Chanpur in Madarganj upazila; Md Maruf Hossain, 24, of Indrabari in Melandah; Md Juglu Mia, 44, of Char Jamira in Sarishabari; Md Jahurul Islam, 45, of the same area; and Md Sabuj Mia, 40, of Sengua in Sarishabari, among others.
Police and locals said suspicion arose after several vehicles carrying drums of fuel were noticed late at night. The vehicles were intercepted and, upon searching them, a large quantity of petrol was found. The drivers and others present were then detained.
